I think the history of a wreck is just as interesting as the wreck itself. An understanding of a wrecks past can really put the hook in it for divers to want to dive it.
Take the Empress of Ireland, If you told me that there was a big old wreck that was hit by some ship in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, I would say "Oh, thats cool" and not give it a seconed thought. But after Kevin McMurray spoke to our club and I read his book "Dark Decent", Diving the Empress has become one of the top things on my diving to do list.
Knowing the history of the wreck can make visiting it a very profound experience, it could be the differencs between just being on a wreck and being in awe on a wreck. :goldfish:

Repeat: DSD is not a show about scuba diving. It is about marine history.

If someone thinks there needs to be a show about scuba diving, develop one, fund it, and get it on a cable channel.

There is a show called "Divers Down" which is a cable based show for divers - I get it on NESN (through DirecTV's sport package). They don't do technical dives, but it is for divers by divers. It only a half hour show. You can see more info at Divers Down

Oh, God!!!
We've been infected with the Russian porn-buy-a-bride market!!!!!!

This reminds me of the caves in mexico that DSD did a show on. The cave divers forum flamed them hard for every small mistake they thought John and the team made.

I thought it was funny that the cave divers flaming DSD would never be half the diver that John is.I wonder if the same is true about the scubaboard divers that are doing all the flaming here?

I'll keep watching , maybe they could get one of Shakazulu's avitar ladies to cohost :happyjaz:

Small mistakes? LOL...first cave class I ever saw taught while kneeling. As I recall the propulsion techniques were pretty poor with lots of silting too.

How did you determine this? JC maybe get around and he might be on TV but his technique is far from impressive.

The first time I saw a cave instructor move in the water I just couldn't believe it and I didn't exactly think we were slouches. Still watching him move was unbelievable. Once in a while I still see a diver who really amazes me. What would lead you to believe that these divers won't ever be as good as JC? The only thing about the way JC moves in the water that amazes me is that they'd put it on TV.

JC's technique just doesn't cut it in cave country. Now maybe they don't care as much about technique in NE wreck diving. Maybe he deserves a pat on the back for some of his wreck exploration. But...I think it's misplaced praise to hold him up as some kind of great diver.

Of course it is. Anyone who would dare to post that they are a better diver than Chatterton is would also be full of it.

But it's human nature to slam everything in order to feel better about yourself.

Nevertheless, John C. is there, doing the show, and we, all of us, are not.

Here is a question that I know will get flamed: Who can prove that John's techniques in the cave-diving episode were less correct than what is taught by others? Quoting what some organization or another writes about the matter won't do it.

I just looked at the website and I wish I received it here in Chicago on my cable package.
