Perfectly stated, if the government needs more money then they should make better use of the money already received. Last week a lady drove over a curb in her lil focus, it was loud but not bad by any stretch. To her aid with popped tires comes 3 police cruisers, 2 ambulances and a damn fire truck. Not a bad thing if they are needed but she did not, once they figure they are not needed all but one ambulance (sunstar, private oddly enough) leaves and the rest stay with their trucks and cars running of course for a damn hour. So we have at least 8 guys standing around burning tax money and gas cuz grandma popped her tires. On the hill for either side isn't much better but if there a way to stop more laws im for it.

I think the real injustice here is the fact that it took 1 hour to change a couple tires. Triple A should be ashamed.

She just didn't know how to work the system better....... that's all...

If you need a speargun to hunt Lionfish you have no business with a speargun or hunting Lionfish IMO. .

We have to agree with this. A speargun is generally overkill for a lionfish. A pole spear with a multi-barb tip will hold the fish stationary and is a little more forgiving in a slight mis-calculation in aiming.. Now if we could get this thread "back on the tracks"...:)
:):)

I criticize because its my damn money keeping that cruiser cool for an hour so he doesn't have to get into a hot car.

Many agencies keep the cars running all the time due to the electrical demands on it. It's not uncommon to see cruisers sitting in parking lots idling around here while the officers are eating lunch, because the electronics would kill the battery in short order if it's shut off and it's not good to shut down and reboot the electronics every time someone has to stop.

What does this have to do with Lionfish anyway?

The genesis was the issue of not collecting license fees and how much money FWC might need. This was (note past tense) relevant because the recent change waives the need for a license (and its associated $$) for taking lionfish with certain weapons.

As if you really need an explanation how a thread gets derailed around here. :shakehead:

Carry on Officer!

yeah... it's a bummer when they run out of battery power and have to reboot in the middle of a game.

And it can be argued from another standpoint that it could give the diving industry a boost and by default hotels as well. Generally speaking the usual suspects on a flats boat or charter fishing boat are generally not going to be lionfish hunting now are they? just musing here..

Emergency services, just like the military, are built because of the "what if" scenario. That fire hydrant down the street from your house may never be used but is there, and is maintained because "what if one of these houses catches on fire".

What if grandma wrecked that car because she had a heart attack.

Or because she was high on prescription drugs.

Or was a "silver alert"

Unless you were right there, with all of the details, you've got no right to question the actions of the "boots on the ground"

It's ALL a waste of money, a giant drain on the the economy.

But local governments are mandated to protect the lives and property of their citizens, by their citizens.

Think about that if your ever involved in a medical emergency on a dive boat... Wish someone would have spent the money on that rescue boat...
