This is what I teach my students about stinky booties.....

To prevent the stink you have to make sure they are dry....
Now grasp a bootie firmly with each hand....
Then ......
Shake Shake Shake....
Shake Shake Shake....
Shake your booties

You're the one who mentioned the possibility that SOMEONE ELSE may have relieved themselves in/on my gear!!!! There's an old southern saying . . something like "A Skunk Smells his Own StinK" . . . You called it, it's gotta be you
