2 days, with a day of 12 foot waves, could easily separate diver from equipment.

I would venture to say not much would be left of her body to even identify her if she was getting pounded by even 6 foot waves enough to strip all her gear off her body... I am not sure that is a possibility...
 
Panic rejection of equipment, or not.

I have ditched my gear because I figured I had a better chance of surviving without it. Managed to get out of the water and up a cliff, beat up but ok. The next day got a friend with a boat and retrieved the gear. I'm a bit more carefull on the North Coast now, as there are limited exits, for SCUBA and even freediving, some places it's a long distance between them, and the water is cold. I knew better, than to try the dive, but I did it anyway.
