Having a 6th Specialty certification is worth more than Master Scuba Diver certification.
Even if it is something like zombie apologize diver or yoga diver.....

If there any specialities (excepted nitrox and perhaps deep) worthing more than the skills learned during the process?

A sixth speciality and master dives seem both advertising you as card collector to shops. Not sure that's the label I want. At best there is a negative prejudice to overcome, at worse it makes you a target for unscrupulous one.

Really? You seem very sensitive to letting someone know that you are interested in learning.

specialities I recommend:
1. GUE fundies
2. navigation
3. deep
4. search & recovery
5. nitrox
6. cavern (probably have to travel)
7. dry suit (only if a cold water diver)
8. night/limited viz (best taken in poor viz)

I don't see value in other courses as a means of improving your diving skills. You can increase your knowledge, but you can do that too by reading a book (Fish ID, boat, etc.).

Cavern and Self-Reliant might put you in the boat's "might have their stuff together and get more latitude" category. (And Solo, Tech-40 and Fundies, though those are classes not specialties.)

Interestingly, I find Self-Reliant in Padi's specialty lists, but not in their diagram of courses.

Of course the Master Diver certification is worth it.

The owners of PADI need to feed their children too.

Wow, someone opened the 2017 crypt....

So, while it is pen again, lets play some...

IMHO, my NAUI MSD took things to quite a higher level for those really interested in diving skills. The local LDS is allowed to create the list of specialties you take, crafting a class and instruction to building competent divers for this area. Others certification organizations seem to not do more than "check the boxes" to have a piece of plastic. I remember signing a log with a guy I buddied with (was a very competent diver) that allowed him to submit the information to get his agencies' MSD. I found it "silly"....

I found the PADI Equipment Specialist course to be valuable. As a newer diver, it helped me understand how to maintain and troubleshoot my own equipment better.

I'm sure I could have accumulated the same knowledge over time by talking with the equipment techs at my LDS as well as other more experienced divers. I made the conscious decision, however, to spend a little money to get the knowledge quicker.

I think that Master Diver cert is useless. Ok, cool name, that is for sure but to pay an organization extra money to get a card that came with zero additional training is ridiculous.

As for specialties, I would add sidemount to any list, especially if you have any desire to do wreck penetration as well doing dives to 40m. My list would be nitrox, sidemount, wreck, advanced wreck and deep. Any others, such as drysuit, would be location dependent.
