So, resetting the discussion, and BEGGING to please keep it on topic,
can we get a definitive answer to the OP?
It was answered on post #2..

So now that is has been Reset....

One of Gee You Eee founders was Jay Jay

Could it have been answered on post#2, you think?

(Reset again...)

JeffG:
Dee Eye Arrrrrr and Gee You Eee
this is very hard to understand with your thick Canadian accent :rofl3: :rofl3: :rofl3:

Kevrumbo:

Not sure if I'm explaining myself or just feeding the trolls, but as a noob
I guess I'm a little defensive. I didn't think I was wasting anyone's time.

Yes it was answered definitively in post #2. That would have worked for me.
I'd have been happy to ignore the verse and "hooked on phonics" noise,
and walked away thinking I knew how to pronounce these.

But then it was also answered definitively, but differently, in later posts.
Ignoring the noise and other expressions of confusion:
Post #16 (Rigdiver - Profile not DIR, but cave, DM, etc.):
" I thought it was Gooeee".
Post #34 (Kevrumbo - Profile says DIR & GUE certified):
"It's phonetically pronounced "Duhr", ..."

So then I look back at Post #2 (JeffG) and there really isn't any
public profile that would cause me to trust his answer. Maybe y'all
know him as a DIR/GUE expert, but that's not clear to me based
on my available information, and even if it was, the conflict with
Kevrumbo is worth asking about.

So forgive my lack of precision in my second post. Rather than "definitive",
I should have asked for an "authoritative" answer. I hope you'll understand
why I now feel like there still isn't one. And frankly, why I'm almost at the
point of not caring.

oh ... you are a retired engineer ... no wonder

and if you, the OP, is almost at the point of not caring ... consider my feelings in this matter, i who knew the answers months (nay, years!) before you asked your questions

:eyebrow:

(with all due respect, you have about five people telling you that the answer in post 2 is correct and you're STILL confused ... hmmm.... ok .... whatever)

Learning on the internet is a beeeetch.

DIR actually is not a true acronym-word like in Radar, Sonar or Scuba for that matter [but agencies PADI ("Pa-dee")and NAUI ("Now-wee") might be --go figure?]. Pronounce each letter separately: D-I-R

I actually prefer TRW, paying homage to my old great employer: Thompson, Ramo and Wooldridge --Space & Defense. A Company called TRW, doing it "The Right Way". . .
