Newer Mk3 and older Mk2 use the same body. The only external difference is the cap. I believe the SPEC cap is a Mk3 indicator.

I was going off this picture when I tagged it as a MK2. http://www.scubaproregulatormuseum.org/The_Regulators/First_Stage/First/first_3.html I was going off the yoke and body, but as Awap noted, the body of the 3 is the same size, so I would imagine the yoke too. However, comparing the ambient holes in both pictures has me leaning toward the MK2. I'm hoping one of the gurus here can give a more definitive answer and what clues to look for.

Wolfie, could you post a few more close up shots of the first stage?

Well, I also found a Mk2 of similar vintage with a SPEC cap. But it looks to me like the Mk2 has a bit longer cap than the Mk3. That is probably why the Scubapro schematic says look inside to determine which is which.

Good eye DA.

Good eye is right. It wasn't until I juxtaposed all three pictures that I could see the MK 3 has the ambient holes pretty much in the center of the cap and the MK 2 with a slightly longer cap has holes are not quite centered. The MK 3 piston head diameter is smaller, but that is not apparent in the pictures.

SP mk3 a.jpgWow. I had no idea that there is so much interest in this rig. I would say it's in excellent shape yet have been reluctant to pull it apart myself as superstar had suggested. DA hit it on the head with MK3 (thanks). The HP hose needs replacing but everything else seems to work fine. Including the Air 2 which no one seems to have commented on. BTW With a dry suit BC and Reg it was a necessity to not have a traditional octo(3 LP ports).SP mk3 b.jpg

Im slowly becoming a 109 addict.. collecting them everywhere I find them. Im up to 3 now, not nearly as many as some of you crazies in here... but I am definitely on my way to the assylum. I love how they breath, and it's nice to have a couple just in case I have an issue (which I never have).
