Hello, I am new to this site and thought I may have some advice from my personal experiences. I dive the AGA at work (fire dept.) in no visibility, highly contaminated H2O, all year....under the ice too! Before you buy a full face mask......train with it under supervision. If you have any desire to dive cold water and must remove the mask, it can be a real shock. If you don't think you'll ever remove the mask, train like you will. Use a block with a pony if that is a major concern and plan on carrying a spare "1/2" mask just in case...helps you see if you're in trouble. This type of setup really should not be used unless you are very comfortable underwater. In response to the comment about CO build-up...unless the nose cup is removed or faulty...this is not a problem, these masks are designed to channel the exhaust out, completely seperate from the inhalation channels. The volume of these masks differ and so does the comfort level.....also some are available in demand or positive pressure.
Good luck and try before you buy! You'll probably change the configuration of your gear once you find the type of diving you love the most.

I dive form beaches & boats in Southern CA's 53-65F low-med viz waters, often with Kelp (although we have gone to Mexico & the Caribbean):

Aqualung Wave BC (NOT integrated)
soft weight belt fulla lead beanbags
Henderson Hyperflex wetsuit+henderson triolifin skin
Scuba-max's hard-bottom boots (old & crusty now)
Sea vision's pink-lens mask
Aqualung's Titan reg/ Octo
Aeris Atmos Pro Computer
rubber jet-fins
aluminum 63 tank
BodyGlove "bus" bag - light & compact with great dry bag

I really, really hate the full-face masks & that Mares BC with the inflator mounted just above the hips. During my rescue class, one guy had that BC & was too damn hard to rescue. A guy in a rescue class I am now assisting has the FFM & can't do the rescue too well. IMHO, standard equipment is the safest. If u r new, your fears may lead you to make some extravagant purchases, at least that's what originally happened to me. When I get ready to persue tech diving, I know I will have to trade up on a few things, but I sure feel freer & more competent now that I am not task-loaded to death...cut 8lbs off my weight belt, too!
