I'm right there with you. I'm 6'4" and 290lbs. I am at the very top of most off-the-rack wetsuits, XXXL. Everyone on here preaches "try a lot of different ones before you buy"....although I agree with that, guys like you and I don't get that luxury. I am a big guy and I even wear size 16...
I actually think I have some input on this. Wearing your mask on your forehead usually makes the mask fit looser (while on your forehead) due to the strap being adjusted to fit horizontally (approxiamtely) around your head. This puts you at risk for having the mask knocked off. By putting it...
As the AOW turns: Florida
That's my part of this story...lol
I have been attempting to finish my AOW class since January. All we have left (my wife AND I) is a double dip on the Speigel Grove. This is why I started diving in the first place. WRECKS....just the the thought gets my adrenaline...
IANTD is not as general as some of the other mentioned agencies. OW certifies you to 70fsw and AOW certifies you to 100fsw. This is spelled out on their webpage very directly.
IANTD Scuba & CCR, PSCR & SCR Rebreather Diver Programs
I was/am very happy that I have taken the AOW class...
Since I'm still new to all this "underwater excitement", I don't have too many pet peeves yet. But, with that being said. I am sick and tired of the weather ruining my dives. I've made two trips to Key Largo over the last couple of months to dive the Speigel Grove. This will complete my AOW...
I was just diving in Key Largo last weekend. The giant stride is just a step. Gotta take that first step to surround yourself in all that coral beauty. No big deal. The DM will help you get up and walk to the back. He/she will then count 1,2,3... All you have to do is walk off the boat...
I was recently certified by IANTD and we had to ditch, don, retrieve gear at depth and buddy breath just to mention a few. More skills in class made me feel more at home in the water.
I just have a couple of suggestions.
1- The Sea Elite is a house brand for Divers Supply and I actually like it. But, you might want to get an octo that matches your primary strictly for servicing reasons. You might want to ensure that your LDS is an authorized service center for whatever...
I feel your pain. I wear a size 16 shoe. I use the Aqualung Blades II. It is more expensive than the ones that you posted but, considerably less expensive than a lot of fins on the market. They are stiff enough and large enough to move my big self through the water. I also agree that open...
I couldn't read this thread without putting my two cents worth in. I think you will love this sport. I'm so addicted that spending this Saturday at home is killing me. I want to be wet. I'm 6'4" tall and weigh 280lbs. Getting gear that fits and is functional is a little difficult but, once...
I can't say that I agree with this statement. If there is no swelling what would impede blood flow? Muscles have VERY good blood supply (healthy adult) and tendons have a very scant blood flow. This causes sprains and strains (tendon and ligament injury) to heal slowly. The increased...
I was wondering about the 5mm with the 3mm hooded vest. That would give me 8mm on my torso and 5mm on my limbs. I probably won't be doing any cave diving for a while. I have to work on getting all my classes. Just planning ahead. With the cost of classes, BCD, lights, tanks and regulator...
I really don't want to be a jerk but, I felt that I had to say something. The unit you are offering for sale doesn't come in an "environmentally sealed" model. Cressi only offers the MC9 that way. Several respected websites offer this exact model for considerably less money BRAND NEW with...
Ok, I have decided that I want to progress to Cave Diver. I know that many (if not most) cave divers wear drysuits but, at this time a drysuit is out of my price range. So I want some input on what thickness wetsuit to purchase.
I live in Central Florida so the diving I do is mostly warm...
I have found that most divers are fairly brand loyal. One person will tell you brand X is not good but, brand Y is awesome. As I have read numerous times on this forum, most brands are very comparable today. Getting a brand that your LDS services is very important unless you want to ship your...
This is probably not the appropriate place to respond to this but, I am curious. My OW training included classroom (2 nights/week for 5 weeks), indoor heated pool sessions (5), all rental gear (excluding mask/fins/snorkel), 2 lake dives and 2 days of chartered 2 tank dives in Key Largo (4...
I agree with the earlier recommendations. I am very thankful that my OW class had several pool sessions before we ever got close to a lake or the ocean. These times in a controlled environment gave me the chance to become comfortable with the equipment and the procedures that I would use while...
The Cressi is the same computer (with just a tweaking for branding) as the Dive Rite Nitek Duo, Tusa IQ700 and the Apeks Quantum. Apeks, Dive Rite and Tusa are all very well spoken of but, Cressi doesn't seem to have the same following. Oh well. I'm very happy with the two of these computers...
