Zak,

Does Mares have any plans to release maps for Koh Tao, Thailand? There is great demand for such maps so it seems as if it would make business sense to release dive maps for sites in this area.

Thanks,
SFDiver

I believe it is actually Art To Media that is making the maps for the Icon. They are essentially converting their larger maps that you usually find in Dive Shops to the correct format for the Icon and then making them available through Mares.

Their site is: Home You could try contacting them to see if they have plans to make any for that area.

If you have maps of the dive sites already, or can find some maps elsewhere, you can always convert them to the correct image size for the Icon and download them to it yourself.

The Luna does have a heart beat monitor as an extra. (I have one)

Hi, The previous poster is correct. Art To Media is the company building maps for the Icon HD. Have you checked their site to see if this is something already available? www.arttomedia.com. Perhaps they take suggestions as well.

Thanks for asking.

Best,

Hi zak,

Do you know where I can send some ideas that I have about the Icon HD computer, several things that I would like to see in future software upgrades perhaps.??

secondly,

The air integration upgrade, from a profit making perspective , I find it a little hard to believe that upgrading to a Air integrated unit would simply mean turning in the old unit, pay the price difference and voila .. get a brand new air integrated unit.. I don't think this is going to be this easy. It wouldn't be very profitable this way, or am i missing something here ?? :headscratch:

Cheers,

Patrick Tm

Hi, you are welcome to send any ideas re: the Icon HD directly to me. Send me a pm with your email and we'll communicate this way.

I understand your question re: the upgrade. Note, we have clearly thought through the process. The original Icon HD computers do not have the hardware necessary to communicate with the transmitter. The challenge would be a timely conversion, which I'm sure most customers would not appreciate. We have some ideas what to do with the older units, to be determined. You are not missing anything, it is simply a matter of it is what it is. Don't worry, we'll be ok financially..

Thanks for checking.

Hi Zak

Could you tell me when will the Icon be available in South Africa ? I work in a dive shop and we are getting a lot of requests for it. Even a demo model would help a lot.

The other thing I would like to know is are there plans a foot to do maps for the South African coast, mainly Sodwana Bay ?

Thanks

Taz, There is no reason to my knowledge why they wouldn't be available in S Africa. The best course of action is to speak with the Mares distributor closest to you. I am not privy to individual country assortments, however I cannot see any logical reason they are not available for you.

We are not making the maps. I would contact www.arttomedia.com to inquire about their future projects.

Thanks for asking!

Zak, I am on the verge of purchasing a Mares Icon unit. However I would like to have an estimate of how much the transmitter upgrade will cost this spring.

Since there are no Mares dealers near me, would I be able to return the old unit by mail and have it replaced with a new unit and transmitter?

Thanks!

Zak,

Can you give any type of REAL date as to the availability of the AI as well. There are people on this thread who have been waiting since 2009 and all Mares has given is a carrot on the end of a stick. Is Spring 2011 real? Is that March 2011 or June 2011. I am looking to buy a computer and while the Icon is appealing, the ability for Mares to make the AI work for the Icon (while others have done so, including other Mares products) is concerning. As is the false promisses that it will be ready in the fall.

Please be straight with us and tell us what is going on with the system and some REAL dates of release for AI.

Thank you,
Dave
