I just finished my first, but definitely not last, dive holiday in Cozumel. It was a FANTASTIC holiday which unfortunately included me getting bent. Thankfully I was with some great people with more experience than I who were quick to recognize my symptoms (thanks Sallye/Brent :worship:) and I was in the chamber before you could say Bob's Your Uncle.

Before leaving yesterday I was presented the bill . Thankfully I had DAN insurance and the entire bill was covered. If you don't have dive insurance, I respectfully suggest you get it. FYI the chamber is $600 US and hour......

Not wishing my life away, but these next 6 months of no diving need to go by quickly!

dmeeve,
Sorry to hear of your "hit", and hope that you are feeling at least somewhat better.
As a member of the "been there, done that" (DCS2) club, let me say to please take it easy, and listen to what the Drs. say. 6 months may seem like a long stretch, but you'll hopefully have many years of good health, and diving, beyond that.
Regarding DAN insurance, I agree: it helped me big time, and I wouldn't dive without it.
Best wishes for a complete recovery!

Specific dive insurance is definitely worth the cost.

If you don't mind what chamber did you go to? What was your experience there. Staff and facility. Thanks

Sorry to hear.

What did you do to get bent?
Ummmmm... He went diving.

I will wager that he'll be taking it easy. I witnessed amazing restraint during the week after his accident!

It's a bad feeling when you are sitting chatting with someone and suddenly realize what those nagging symptoms they're having add up to...

I am just glad we were all there and Brent was so persuasive! Keep getting better, T!

If you are willing, please share your profiles with us. It is always useful for people to see what kind of diving ends up in the chamber, whether it's pushing limits, or well within them.

For those of you who wished me well, thanks. I'm doing fine thanks to some great care from Dr. Piccolo and staff who, unless you are asking for complete rest and water to drink, will say no. Sallye....still haven't had a beer:cheers:

No need to post my profile, as Pelagicsal said, I was just diving. Five other people had the exact same profile as I did over a two day span. All dives were nitrox. mixes were tested, and the dives were well within limits of the most conservative computer. I took the hit, everyone else was fine and continued their diving. I exercise 3-4 times weekly , I am not obese and I am in my 50's. I was probably less hydrated than I should have been.

No need not to post your profile either. I can see from your earlier posts that you enjoy downloading and looking at your profile on you PC. We'd enjoy looking at it too :)

As a new diver, it's pretty odd that you were bent following agency guidelines even if you were a little dehydrated. Personally, I'm interested in your ascent rate. A year ago you were extolling the virtues of online scuba training that you just completed, and now you're bent. If it wasn't the ascent rate or anything else during the dive itself that should have caused your DCS, then you likely have some physiological issues that would potentially predispose you to getting bent again, which might want to make you think twice before scheduling the next dive trip.
