I wish it was that simple. Even if a company has a HQ in the USA, do they manufacture it themselves or contract it out. Even if they manufacture locally, they need to order the material from a foreign manufacturer in many cases. High density Yamamoto neoprene from Japan for example.

Bare, now owned by Huish Outdoors, has its' HQ in Salt Lake City and the repair center in Vancouver B. C, just across the Canadian Border from Seattle where I live. Yet the manufacturing plant, while in-house, is in Malta.

I think he is more referring to no US affiliation what so ever. With that said let's focus on the OP's question ultimately where he spends his money is entirely up to him.

Yes, but they are companies and people benefiting from the foreign suppliers, they contribute to the local economy, pay taxes and employ people in the US.

This is what I said exactly:
a foreign company that has no presence or any affiliation with any business or support network in the US and no US based company or people would benefit nor would help create jobs in the US.

And he made the point of him wanting to buy from a US based company through his LDS.

Not sure of your size but I know my LDS has a custom BARE Tech on sale here and with the USD it could be an option. Men's HDC Tech Drysuit - FREE shipping

Thank you for the tip. Unfortunately, it is too small. I am 6'2" and weigh just a bit under 200 lbs. For suitcoats, I can wear a 42 long right off the rack.

many quality US based manufacturers exist all over the US

So far, I know DUI is one. What are others?

To GRH's point, things are spread out all over these days. But let's call it "US based," regardless of where the repair facility is located or to which country they farm out the production.

I read a fantastic review of the Frogman drysuit last night in the Exposure Suit forum, but we are talking about ordering from Russia, communicating via Facebook Messenger, and converting from rubles to dollars. Intimidating for a beginner!

I really can't believe that some are advocating to buy direct from a foreign company that has no presence or any affiliation with any business or support network in the US and no US based company or people would benefit nor would help create jobs in the US. If the OP is an American but living overseas that is something that is acceptable but somebody is recommending for somebody who is living in the US to order from overseas when there are many quality US based manufacturers exist all over the US is just beyond me.
I can’t believe anyone advocating flushing $3000 down the drain for no improvement in quality, what car do you drive?

I said US based that includes Bare that has local support network. Any company, even the ones that manufacture overseas as long as they have local support and pay taxes and employ people in the US.

Here is another good US company that makes great suits: Suits

Bare is a US based company 100% US owned. They manufacture their drysuits in Malta but they support the economy in the US.

When I lived in the US, I have ALWAYS owned US made cars. It is difficult to get US made cars where I live now and there are no dealers or reliable service garages for US made cars unfortunately.

Are you referring to cars or drysuits or what? If drysuits, In my 30 years of living and diving in the US and owning a dive center there and teaching and selling drysuits, I have used DUI suits including TLS350 and the CF200 for myself and for rental/training and for staff and NEVER had a quality control issue at all. My fellow dive instructors, celebrity divers/photographer in New England and NY/NJ all used different versions of DUI suits and no exceptional issues at all. Best money spent.

DUI suits are fine especially when you get the outlandish discounts offered to the shops to promote them, for the average “not connected” person there are much better ways to spend money, corporate games as to “presence” aside, maybe I should workout a deal with Seaskin, rent them a corner of my garage, stencil on the logo here and claim they are make here. I can justify a bit more for something made here maybe even up to 20% but I cannot justify 400%.

DUI doesn't offer any more discount than what others offer. You are focusing on only one thing not the whole pictures. I have also said that there were no quality control issues with the suits at all even with the heavy use in rental and the abuse they get.
