    Rescue Diver: Day 1,2,3

You might not realise it, but that is a HUGE violation of both standards, and common sense. Did you all have redundant air sources and overhead training? Even if you did, this is still a BAAAAAAAAAD idea. Glad you're enjoying your rescue course, and that you made it out of that dive still...

    Determining Visibility

In New Zealand we have a fresh water spring which apparently has the clearest spring water in the world. It has been measured as having 63 metres vis. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Te_Waikoropupu_Springs

Gauge Mode on a Dive Computer

Fair enough then. All of the reasons given by above posters seem entirely sensible. I was just wondering. Certainly the download ability makes a lot of sense, as do the user replaceable batteries, and in your case cost.

Gauge Mode on a Dive Computer

Wouldn't a bottom timer have been cheaper/more appropriate if you never want to use the actual computer functions?

Gauge Mode on a Dive Computer

Locking them out on the surface or during the dive, and having them beep and otherwise warn you about stuff that is irrelevant as you have already planned for it. It will adversely affect subsequent dives with the computer if you "bend it"

Does cold water increase air consumption?

also, if diving wet, you'll wear thicker neoprene. Thicker neoprene mean greater buoyancy swing when the wetsuit compresses at depth. This will mean more air in the bc along with more lead, and increase air consumption. I think if you are not used to cold water, then your trim will probably be...

Gauge Mode on a Dive Computer

We use guage mode when doing deco dives with non deco computers to avoid "bending" them.

    Fins & Coral

You can't expect to get pleasant responses to an intentionally stupid and provocative question (the coral one in this thread).

What do you do to be seen?

I like the idea, but it may well end up with the paint flaking off into the ocean. My gear is mostly black, but I dive with doubled yellow fabers, and a can light.

    Fins & Coral

Strange question, but ok. Yellow if you are concerned about them being easily visible. Otherwise, which ever colour you prefer. I will refrain from biting the other part of your trolling question.

Why don't we emphasize cesa more??

Just about anything is a sign of schizophrenia since there is not really any such thing. It is the "other" designation for mental illness IMO, but that is for another board. As for helmets, Soggy you need to ensure you can mount plenty of lights to said helmet.

    discrepencies in training prices

I don't think there is anything in the original post to suggest that he was complaining about the cost. Looks to me like he was just trying to understand what would lead to a difference in pricing one way or another. I agree that a lot of instructors are underpaid, but don't lay that all on the...

New to sport and need a BCD

AS other posters have said, there really isn't any problem diving back inflate BCDs. You will end up floating differently on the surface, and may decide to surface swim on your back. Shouldn't be a problem. As to the BCD in your original post, it looks fine. I agree with MSilvia that I...

    discrepencies in training prices

Perhaps not on long threads, but there were only 7 on this thread. I guess the point is that if you are going to bother asking questions, it would be better to at least have a look at what has been said.

    discrepencies in training prices

Read the posts before asking questions. As posted by the original poster, both shops do quarry dives. To the original poster.. I would see which shop offers the particular dives that you want to do as part of your AOW. Its really not that big a prioce difference.
