    DIR/GUE OW class

There's not much info. Nitrox is an hour or two. All the rest is simple fundamental diving. It's not a traditional OW class plus DIRF plus AOW. It's a single, teach them the right way the first time class. Fixing all of the wrong things is harder. DIRF is four dives, and that so far does a...

    Wetsuit under dry suit?

I'm not sure if you don't get it or you're trying to rationalize some incorrect opinions. The water is BAD. The wetsuit does its best to keep water movement to a minimum, because new cold water is way worse than the already bad warm-ish water. I guess that saying the warm-ish water already in...

Is adding RAM to computer the key?

Dang, I'm running a 4 year old Athlon XP 1600+ with a gig of RAM. I'm not sure what her puter specs are, but a 3 year old computer is no reason to go out and buy a new one. The system RAM is the hangup. 256 is the bare minimum to run XP, and 512 is really a dramatic improvement just in terms...

    Wetsuit under dry suit?

This is hilarious. The guy first states that it's the water that keeps you warm, not the neoprene. Then the story morphs and morphs til we get "Do you want that original layer of trapped water to stay in your wet suit or do you want new water to constantly flow in and out?" Dude. The water in...

    Wetsuit under dry suit?

Oh. I don't get it I guess.. why is a 7mm fullsuit much warmer than a 3mm fullsuit, then?

    Time to convert - BP/W

1 backplate. 12' of webbing. Crotch strap. 5 steel D-rings. 7 steel triglides. 1 wing. 1 STA. 2 cam straps. 2 bolts. 2 washers. 2 wing nuts. That's not "three pieces." I admit it's not something very complicated, but there's more to it than 3 pieces and a "traditional" BC comes in just 1 piece...

Buoyancy Control: Dry suit or BC?

Your PADI class taught you that the book was wrong? Interesting. I wonder if this is specified in the instructor standards.

    Forgot to snap my spg...

I read it that the diver probably thought he had it clipped, but it wasn't there when he went to check it again. If he couldn't get it clipped, I'd think he wouldn't have waited til he wanted to look at it again to get some help from his buddy.

    what regulator to buy

Not sure what you mean by supported, but G250 service kits shouldn't be too hard to get.

    Forgot to snap my spg...

Spectre and awap nailed it. My preferred method is to grab the HP hose from the first stage and follow it down to the SPG, but the sweep works equally well. As the others have also said, after a few dives you won't even be thinking about it anymore. No sweat.

    Doing it Ridiculous

I'll stop ya right there. Nothing about DIR is a prerequisite for anything except DIR. Some people choose to dive DIR. They may advocate DIR to a certain extent, but the goal of DIR is not to enforce its rules on anyone at all. DIR is a system that some people choose to adopt. It is not...

Is adding RAM to computer the key?

Video memory isn't going to be an issue, but 244MB of RAM certainly is if you're working with Photoshop, particularly if you are on XP. Without knowing more about your PC I can't recommend specific upgrades (brand/model would be helpful) but 512MB should be the rock bottom for what you're...

I will stop you right there, actually. George has posted literally everything he knows on the internet. The techdiver archives, the Quest list, and the Gavin Scooters list collectively contain a stunning amount of information from George. This is something that's extrapolated backwards from...

    question about dry suits

I'm not sure where you got your information, but it is completely false. Polypropylene maintains more warmth than wool when damp, and Thinsulate (made from polypropylene fibers I believe) retains the most warmth when damp of any insulation I'm aware of. Wool is better than cotton, but not as...

    Posidon Regulators Opion's

They're good, but if there's no local service available, Poseidons are not the regulators to get. They are difficult to service and can be a little quirky at times. There are a ton of other regulators out there that are less demanding of the user but offer equal or better performance.

    question about dry suits

If you buy a drysuit that fits you well, and pair it with undergarments appropriately suited to the environment you're diving in and also fit you well, then drysuit diving is a cakewalk. I see no reason to learn to dive a drysuit unless you already own one.

    What Undergarment for DIR?

Anyone who thinks fleece is sufficient has not had one flood on them. They may be sufficient for no-deco diving in water that isn't that cold (cue the guy in the corner screaming "I wear fleece in cold water and I stay warm!" who thinks mild hypothermia is OK even though they will swear up and...
