For me it was something I always wanted to do. When I was little I would often think what is in there when I would be swimming around. I was on vacation in Mexico and we were at a PADI resort so I did it. I went up and talked to the instructor about what it all cost and how long it would take and then a few days later I was certified. I love it and now I am curious about how you got into it and why.

The t-shirts. Every vacation spot has cool scuba t-shirts. I could never find one that said, "I snorkeled The Wall".

Mike Nelson........One of my childhood idols...:)

I was in a zero visibility sump without breathing apparatus when the idea hit me.

Living in La Jolla , CA on the beach with a nice reef just offshore.

I really suck at snorkeling and wanted an activity that would help me get more comfortable in my mask, while also knowing my husband loves the water and he might have fun with it.

It worked- I am a much better snorkeler than before I started diving :)

Grew up basically on Long Island Sound (NY/CT), snorkeled 'til age 51 when I got certified. Spent the in between years inland so no incentive, as shell collecting was my only interest in diving. Still is, except that I also now enjoy divemastering classes as well.
