A good partner supports his/her Significant Other's Passion - not necessarily monetarily, but moral support.
Well said, Jax. The key is finding a partnership where everyone can do what they want/need (within reason that fits all partners) whether that is doing stuff together or not. My spouse no interest in diving and very little interest in even snorkeling. She gives me time to do those things when we go on vacations (or when we're home) and she does her own thing. Sometimes the kids go with her, sometimes with me. We also have things we do together. Everyone wins.

Is it sad that one of the things I care about on my first dates... is if the guy is willing to learn to dive? :lookaround:

Haha, that cracked me up! And no, it's not sad and I completely agree! I used to walk around looking at women, thinking "damn she would look good in a bikini"... now it's "damn she would look good in SCUBA gear!!!"

So are you two going to let 2,000 miles of continent keep you from meeting? You already have the same last name.

Me and my wife both dive (although she is not as thrilled as I am) so this is just my opinion.

I think that as long as you guys enjoy the time together you should be fine. If she sits on the boat reading a book while you dive instead of staying home you guys should not have any issues. I know a couple who divorced because she had absolutely no interest in what he was doing, so he would go away for the weekend and she would stay home. Needless to say he found a woman with the same interest as him, so he left his wife. I spoke to her about it and she regrets not taking interest in his activity (NASCAR) and agrees that's what ultimately led to their divorce.

Good luck I wish you both all the best.
