    New Halcyon knife

Sorry chiming in a little late... verybaddiver - you WEREN'T being sarcastic when you made your original post?!? Good grief... glad that was put to bed. If you drop knife, your backup is on your partner. I like carrying EMT shears in my thigh pocket, obviously not as accessible as my knife...

    Manta Divers

I think we made reservations via e-mail or possibly through their website, but paid in full on the morning of the dive. Probably a good idea to bring a copy of your emails to ensure they charge your the appropriate amount for the dives. Have fun!

    anyone use a pelican 1620?

My 1650 is great... never really had a problem with weight. I was charged the overweight fee once, but the airline refunded the money when I pointed out their miscalibrated scale. It was 15lbs with nothing on it... just got lucky that I glanced down while processing the rest of my ticketing...

    Unsafe Cancun dive operator?

All I can say is.... its Mexico. ;-) Actually, you're no more than 150' away from an opening. It was a very easy dive, the guide provides a good brief (ie. no straying, rule of thirds, light signals...) on the ride down from the shop. He also decides on which cenote to hit depending on...

    Cancun , Mexico

We dove with both outfits mentioned here, and had an excellent time. Scuba Cancun took us out on their boat over Memorial Day on a reef dive. Excellent sealife... sea turtles, nurse sharks, schooling fish... Boat's a good size, about 5 customers per DM. Bring a signal bouy... took about...

    Unsafe Cancun dive operator?

Just got back from a trip to Cancun. Manta Divers took us to Chak Mool for a nice easy cavern dive. The guide, Lief, is top-notch. For the same type of dive, I'd recommend them in a heartbeat. As for the compressor, I thought it looked kludgy also. It's a car motor with the intake high...

    Puerto Rico Diving Suggestions

Mandy3206, Thanks for the valuable information. Unfortunately, this will be a company sponsored trip and we only have one day to dive... We'll probably dive from Humacao. Sea Ventures provides transportation from the hotel and the cost includes rentals for my co-workers. So it sounds like...

    Puerto Rico Diving Suggestions

Hello, I'll be in San Juan later this week. The hotel recommended an outfit called "Sea Ventures". They have two boats from the following locations Fajardo and Humacao, which seem to service the northeast and southeast of the island respectively. From Fajardo, the boat ride would be...

    Dry Suit Donning............

I'm fairly new to drysuits, but it seems to me that squeeze is much more noticeable dry than wet. And the need to relieve yourself while diving dry is much more prevalent than diving wet. Besides, getting in and out of the latex seals is always a chore. And I still have a newbie paranoia...

    Hi Ho... Hi Ho...

Try the folks at EE, I'm sure they wouldn't mind putting together a DIR-F class and something along the lines of intro or even put you into a Cave1 class. Good luck! with both job hunting and extended dive trip planning. Ken

    The problem with turtle fins...

Can't believe that they are "the sole choice of many combat and tactical units worldwide". How serious can you be taken with turtles on your fins? Anyone thought of using black rubber cement to "cover" up the logo and words? Oh well, as long as they work... Ken

Can you make it to the meeting?

I think a few face-to-face meetings would be worthwhile as well. It is a hike for those outside the Beltway, especially in MD. And I can completely understand if we only see you all at the dive sites. But for first time members, a public area with no entry fee is certainly less intimidating...

    Millbrook - Saturday, October 19 - 8:30 am - Beach 1

That's too much pressure I'm bailing.... ;) Matt - I think Dave will run a pretty rough class. I was only going to stay in the water for about 30 mintues at most before meeting the RD class. Long enough to pick up some drysuit pointers and fine tune the damn thing. I'm hoping that sitting...

    Local Meetings/Dive Club?

Yup. If you want to meet at O-ring's, I can help shuttle if necessary.

Matt, who are you doing Rescue with? Ken

    Hey- who's up for Millbrook?

I'm not that rich and don't have the dive bug that badly. Besides I also have an activities director who I have to keep happy. Did you all find the plane? Ken

    Where to buy a spool??

#18 will be a little thin. #36 would probably be okay too since you only need 50'. I've only seen #18 braided line at Home Depot. All the other braided lines are a little too thick for a spool. Ken

    Chesapeake Bay, Virginia

Haven't heard of much to dive in the Chesapeake Bay. There is the U-1105 near the inlet of the Potomac. For more information: http://www.brassanchor.com/divewher.htm
