Just had a rather lengthy discussion with an individual about pre-dive planning and have a couple questions for the board. How much time and effort do you put into your dive planning? How far ahead do you think about it? A week? A day? An hour? Combination? What is included in your planning...

I have Z-planner, V-planner, Deco-planner and have just downloaded GAP. Is GAP the most user UNFRIENDLY program out there or is it just me??? BTW, you can check more than one on the poll.

And I have been referred to other shops many times by my LDS, BUT...I think they would prefer to be the ones' who refer THEIR customers - NOT someone hanging out in the store. I know of no dive shop that stocks EVERYTHING that evry company makes. But, generally, they can get it or something...

That would probably irritate most dive shop folks I know. The lady might have even thought you worked there. You said that there are still nice people who work there - those "nice people" might not get paid with conversations like that going on IN THEIR SHOP. I would have avoided the question...

Routinely fill mine to 3200-3500. Has been as high as 4000 before without death and destruction. Just got them hydroed with no problems.

When cave diving, I check each of my regs' IP each morning. The gauge costs $19.95 from DiveRite dealer and it doesn't take but a second to do. When recreational diving, I check it before each trip.

....wreck diving has more variables than cave. Same basic principles apply but dive planning is a tad more essential with wreck.

.....scuba diving is marketed as a recreational acitvity that "anyone can learn to dive" like rollerblading or riding a bicycle there would be no incentive for that very industry to tighten things up a bit as far as training is concerned.

I am of the opinion that a newly ordained DM or OWI CAN be two of the three worst influences on our community and other divers.
