    Pre-Dive Planning and Preparation...(+)

Just had a rather lengthy discussion with an individual about pre-dive planning and have a couple questions for the board. How much time and effort do you put into your dive planning? How far ahead do you think about it? A week? A day? An hour? Combination? What is included in your planning...

    Deco software

I have Z-planner, V-planner, Deco-planner and have just downloaded GAP. Is GAP the most user UNFRIENDLY program out there or is it just me??? BTW, you can check more than one on the poll.

Being Banned from a Dive Shop..

And I have been referred to other shops many times by my LDS, BUT...I think they would prefer to be the ones' who refer THEIR customers - NOT someone hanging out in the store. I know of no dive shop that stocks EVERYTHING that evry company makes. But, generally, they can get it or something...

Being Banned from a Dive Shop..

That would probably irritate most dive shop folks I know. The lady might have even thought you worked there. You said that there are still nice people who work there - those "nice people" might not get paid with conversations like that going on IN THEIR SHOP. I would have avoided the question...

To what pressure are you filling your PST 104s to?

Routinely fill mine to 3200-3500. Has been as high as 4000 before without death and destruction. Just got them hydroed with no problems.

Do you own an Intermediate Pressure Gauge?

When cave diving, I check each of my regs' IP each morning. The gauge costs $19.95 from DiveRite dealer and it doesn't take but a second to do. When recreational diving, I check it before each trip.

    Diving with strangers

Part of good dive planning and preparation is to have this issue resolved before getting on the boat. Although internet buddies may, at times, turn out to be morons, it is a good start and finding a buddy of similiar skills and experience will, at the very least, give you a jump on things...

    Help me make a decision

Sign up for the workshop - blow it off - and go cave diving. Two advantages to this approach - first, you get the free t-shirt and second, you can cave dive while everybody else is at the workshop. Trying to schedule things where I can get down there that weekend. BTW, I heard you got to see...

Blown Burst Disk right after thirds

I had one blow (and when I say "blow" I mean blow all to hell) about 500' into Orange Grove. It was the god - awfullest noise I have ever heard. If I recall correctly the tank was empty within ten minutes and it was "a little over full" when it happened. Also, if I recall correctly, I left...

    Remote valves

Your NOT supposed to be in an overhead environment if your skills are such that you are proned to running into things.

    Are you a stroke?

. Look. Most of these quotes people keep coming up with were made in the context of a technical discussion (and when I say technical, I don't mean these weenie technical dives I make - I'm talking technical to an extreme). Or they are posted on a technical oriented website (WKPP). I've heard...

    Are you a stroke?

You're the one that needs to lighten up. I haven't seen that attitude you're talking about. But what I have seen is a lot of defensiveness when the debate doesn't go your way. I've heard that "name calling", "pompous", "self important", "militant", "cult" crap till I'm tired of hearing it...

    Whats the difference between...

....wreck diving has more variables than cave. Same basic principles apply but dive planning is a tad more essential with wreck.

Should certification testing be separate from training?

"the masses" are what gives us a little influence as a community. I don't know where you would think we want less people diving. We want less incompetent bozo's diving and teaching others to dive. Scuba's elite club and Rolls Royce..... It is members of the scuba elite you refer to that are...

Should certification testing be separate from training?

.....scuba diving is marketed as a recreational acitvity that "anyone can learn to dive" like rollerblading or riding a bicycle there would be no incentive for that very industry to tighten things up a bit as far as training is concerned.

The Buddy system and separation problems

I am of the opinion that a newly ordained DM or OWI CAN be two of the three worst influences on our community and other divers.

Should certification testing be separate from training?

Excellent idea! It'll never happen, though.
