    Eye Hemorrhage

Yesterday, the viz was better than it's been all year...except for, maybe, April. Haven't seen it so clear since last year's New Year's Eve dive. Amazing how quickly it clears up once the dreaded algae blooms die off.

What is the BIGGEST OBSTACLE TO DIVING?

    Kids. Four of 'em.

    Show me your dive room

I have some tubs in the basement, and some hooks to hang stuff from on the ceiling. Period. Pretty lame, but you all have given me some great ideas...

    PA Diver Dies in Bonaire

I read the story in our local weekly paper, and it turns out he was a resident of our area, and I remembered reading this thread. Details in this article. Sad. Condolences to friends and family.

    Dutch Springs April 6th?

Hope it was a good die day yesterday. Saturday turned out to be the better of the two. Bob couldn't make it today (Sunday), which is just as well, since it's pretty raw out there. We'll catch you on one of these upcoming Saturdays. PM me your e-mail & cell, so I'm not such a dweeb when the...

    Wetsuit for Dutch Springs

Let me know if you ever decide to make that trip -- I'd be interested. I used to drive by Shark River Inlet on my way to work in Eatontown every day (yeah, a long trek from the Philly area), and I've read some great dive reports from there. Any other location sounds good, too.

    Dutch Springs April 6th?

Yeah -- I have other WV buddies' numbers and e-mail addresses, but BillF and I usually drop the PMs through WV. I had mentioned 4/5 to him weeks ago, but the shorties have again conspired against my dive plans, so Sunday it is. Early- and late-season viz seems to be good there, although...

    Dutch Springs April 6th?

Paging BillF... With WV down, I suddenly realized that I don't have an outside e-dress for you, and we've primarily communicated via WV PM... Anyway, my family schedule is too crazy to allow me to get to DS on Saturday, but I will be there on Sunday. So keep in touch, and we can get a...

    Wetsuit for Dutch Springs

I use the 7mm FJ all year long at Dutch. Last year, I started in April, and ended on 12/31 and was comfortable on every dive. Granted, a 7mm is a little warm in the summer sun, but if you're going deep, you'll be glad you have it.

    Wetsuit fitting

One thing that may help with putting it on and taking it off is a lycra skin. I wear one under my 7mm FJ, and it makes a world of difference -- especially when it's wet. My suit shrank over last winter -- forcing me to lose 21 pounds over the spring & summer. I'll just have to keep a better...

    New or Used BCD?

I bought a nice used BC from an instructor at my LDS who was leaving the country to be a divemaster at some exotic location. He couldn't bring that one because it didn't pack as easily as a smaller BC. It was a great fit, a solid product, well-cared for, and offered at a great price -- so I...

    Pet peeve: dangling lights

I can't stand any dangling anything, so I have my SPG clipped on my left hip, octo bungeed under my chin, computers and compass on wrists, and my light (clipped to a D-ring) is stuffed into my waistband so it won't dangle. Granted, my favorite light is rather small, but this works well. You...

Hard weights in a weight integrated BC?

I use both hard and soft weight in my weight-integrated BC. I used to require 20+ pounds (a hard ten on one side, two hard fives on the other and 4 soft in a tank strap pocket for trim). When I went to HP steel tanks, I immediately shed 8-10 pounds of lead, so now I use a hard five in each...

    Lightest, smallest regulator

Yes, annoyingly, they've discontinued both the Micra Adjustable 2nd stage and the Cousteau (AKA "SEA") first stage -- which has been my primary reg for the last six years. I was lucky to find a DIN conversion kit for it recently, and also had it rebuilt, so it's good to go for a while. Very...

    Coldest temperature on a Wetsuit?

I did the New Year's Eve dive at Dutch Springs in PA in my 7mm FJ with 5/7 hood. Temp was around 42 degrees, dive time: 39 mins, max depth: 102 ffw. The only thing that was bothering me were my feet (and, to a lesser extent, my fingers, but that's because I wore gloves instead of lobster...

    BC's with "Elevator" Lever

Kinda late jumping in here, but I find the "butt dump" a more efficient dump than an inflator. If my trim is proper, then using the inflator is more of a contortion act than reaching back and tugging the cord once or twice. Plus, more of the air is back there in the wing than up by my...

    divers in NH

You must be the "scubajay" from the winnipesaukee.com site. I am the "Grant" from that same site. Small world, eh? We should dive some time! I'll dive anywhere in Winni. Been diving and snorkeling it my entire life, and wish i had another 45 years to explore at least *some* of the rest of...

a question to those who use Worthington 100

I went to an X7-100 this year. 10 lbs. negative full, 2 negative empty. I shed 10 of 24 pounds lead But it really depends on what you're diving, what you're wearing, etc. I typically wear a 7mm farmer john, which means ~14mm from thigh to shoulders. I'm 5'11" and a solid 210. At that...

    In the pursuit of 'trimness'.

I still trust the real reg. Just enough extra hose. You could do the long-hose primary, with the spare on a bungee necklace. Nice trim with this. I did this about three years ago. Put the compass on the other wrist. Never going back. And I took the SPG that was part of the console with...
