    Ice training!

Man guys, you are making me so jealous. I want to learn to ice dive so bad. We don't have alot of ice situations here, but we do dive alot in near freezing water. If ya train for the worse case scenario and have to jump in 38 degree water, your good to go. Looking forward to the pics.

    Another one dry docks himself

Gary, I feel your loss, it's tough to lose experienced team members in this way. The day that one quit's feeling upset or sad for another human senselessy losing their life is the day they need to quit being operational. Every public safety diver has had this happen and has had to deal with it...

questions about pro certs and gear

^^^^^ Excellent post, well said. +1 Gonje3d, I really don't think anyone wants to tell you not to pursue your passion. I think what the synopsis of this thread is that everyone wants you to take your time, smell the roses, and get a solid diving foundation.

    Questions about gear...

I usually end up ordering the majority of my stuff on-line, I still do try to support my local dive shops, but, with a public employees wages I have to buy gear at the best price. If anyone wants to adopt me Im available!

    Questions about gear...

I agree with the idea of waiting to buy your gear until you have spent some time in the water. If you feel comfortable with your instructor, ask him for guidance and advice. I always try to buy local and support local dive stores to an extent, but, if the prices are out of whack I'll order...

    under wear?

Im talking about a dry suit, not a wet suit. When we are diving in REALLY cold water, PSD work, this is what I wear, as do the majority of the rest of the divers. And, while re-reading the first post, I thought they were talking about dry suits, now I see it's wet suits. Under my wet...

    Night Diving

Jekyll hit the nail on the head, +1 to Jekyll. Night diving is a B L A S T, you will love it. I would rather night dive than anything. The fish are more relaxed and everything seems so much more vivid as you only focus on what your light is looking at. If your instructor friend has offered...

    under wear?

http://www.underarmour.com/Home.cfm?site_id=5 This is the stuff I wear. Most people could probably get by with the regular athletic stuff tho. The combat stuff is made a little tougher in construction in the seams, knee and elbows. I use this stuff for diving, swat, and swift water rescue and...

    under wear?

In very cold water, like 36 degree water, I wear a layer of polypropylene on top of a layer of underarmor. Both of these wick perspiration away from the skin and works really well. If I am diving in moderate temperatures I wear a pair of regular swim shorts and a t-shirt.

    Dive stories to share

I do alot of public safety diving, and while diving to recover the body of a person whom burned up in a house boat fire I ripped my BC on some metal of the house boat. I was really upset as my BC was just a few months old. It pretty much ripped the bladder and when I tried to repair it, the...

Training? Playing? Working? Confused as toi which it is.

Sounds like alot of fun. Do you train your guys all the way up through Public Safety Diver or stop at Dive/Rescue? Also, with the throw bags in your cars, do you keep PFD's with the throw bags?

    Ear Problems

There are multiple ways to clear your ears. The pinch nose system is the most common, I move my jaw side to side and it always clears. I agree that if you are having problems persistant for several days to consult a ENT. As a divemaster, my advice to you is to talk to your instructor and...

    SRT rescue last night

Finished up with swat training last night and as I walked in the door my phone dropped about 8 alerts in 10 seconds. We had a person drive their car into some flood water and the car began to float downstream. Grabbed my rescue dry suit, PFD, and srt gear and went to the scene. This rescue...
