Did you test an Atomic Aquatics mask?

I currently have 3 (I think) Atomic masks and have had at least 2 others. None of them was ever remotely as prone to fogging as my Mako Minimus. I never really had to do anything special to the Atomics to get them totally useable.

I have a Frameless that has resisted all and every attempt to clean.

it is now sitting in an ammonia bath. Will report back in 14 days.

You could at least take it out and check it after 1 day, and, if not good, after 3 or 5 or 7, rather than just wait for 2 weeks....

Seeing as I’m sitting on my butt for the next two weeks at home, I’ll begrudgingly agree to fishing the mask out of solution every two days and checking. Even then, I won’t be satisfied until I check it on a dive somewhere. This mask has been more troublesome to me than a one legged man at an arse kicking contest.

Wrap-Up:

I truly thank everyone who was a mask donor, everyone who ran (and is still running) parallel experiments, everyone who offered helpful suggestions, and everyone who played the devil’s advocate thus making sure that this investigation did not understate or overlook key ‘uncomfortable realities’. This investigation was truly peer-reviewed. No single one of us got us here. Yea, team!

I also appreciate the cheerleaders who only posted ‘likes’ in this thread, both positive and negative. I see those ‘likes’ as reinforcing someone else’s post and providing input by bringing focus back onto that particular post. So, I consider this to be an honest peer-reviewed SB scientific investigation of a really annoying problem that affects all of us. If you try this treatment for your mask and the results please you, then remember the team that came up with these suggestions:

If you are in the following list (in no intended order), then I saw your input as useful for either supporting or rejecting (for your stated reason) particulars of the proposed mask treatment(s):

Quite an impressive list. And additional thanks to the “Core Team”. You know who you are. :)

Everybody, Please do not ‘like’ this post, this is me ‘liking’ YOUR participation and interest. It is greatly appreciated and we wouldn’t be here without your help, ideas, and encouragement.

We’ve made some real progress, no reason to stop here. Please share anything that you find that is related to this effort.

I have some masks to clean and get back to their owners…

Celebrate success!

When you find out the magic formula, will you change your handle to hiviz?

Thank you for a sterling effort, @lowviz.

I only have one serious question left. Can someone please summarize the Ammonia Protocol?

Do I just put some inside the mask, so the inside of the lenses are soaking? Do I have to immerse the whole mask, so both sides of the lenses plus all of the skirt is soaking?

That and pending some info from @tridacna on how long, I think I'll have a solid starting point to treat my Mako Minimus. Since the dishwasher treatment, it has been pretty good. But, it could still be better.

Thanks.

Maybe I misunderstood but my mask is completely immersed in an ammonia bath.

I suspect that is the correct procedure, but I just wanted to make sure.
