Cabo San Lucas - Wetsuit recommendation, etc?

Going to be in Cabo in about two weeks, plan to drive there and bring all ourgear. But have a few questions. First, what kind of wetsuit should we be looking at? Here at home we are always in a 7mm with hood, gloves etc. Does anyone have any current temperatures for the area? Most of what...

    Catalina avalon dive park friday/saturday

Cool Geoff. I'll actually be on the same boat tomorrow morning, but it sounds like you guys already have a full dive crew for your time there and a fifth would be a little much I think. But if I happen to see you I'll be sure to atleast say hi.

    Catalina avalon dive park friday/saturday

Anyone going to be out, or want to come out to Catalina friday or saturday for a dive at the dive park? Maybe one or two dives on either day? Otherwise, anyone have any advice on finding buddies there? Just show up at the dive park and see if anyone is looking or what?

    WTB 2 steel 100cf tanks

Best of luck, these don't show up in the classifieds very often if at all (and if they did I would probably already own atleast a dozen of them), not many of the dive shops stock them regularly either. They are expensive but well worth it and people keep them forever. Might try estate sales...

    2010 Fitness Exercise Challenge!!

Haven't checked in here in a while, so thought I would. Everyone seems to be doing great here! And I have actually met me goal and weighed in at 187 this morning, which is actually 3 lbs past my goal! The odd thing is, I really haven't exercised much at all in the past month! I ride my bike...

    Santa Barbara?

I'm pretty much always up for a dive in SB, weekends or after work during the week(5pm). Check out the dive club if you haven't already, paradisediveclub.org.

Mandatory Dive Time per Dive ?

I think the PADI rules are a good start but I also think that there should be an allowance for logging anything significant that happens regardless of dive length or any other factors. For instance if a dive is called five minutes into it because or an equipment failure or some other...

How do I remove gear-marking paint?

Have you tried just plain old nail polish remover? It ***shouldn't*** harm the material and is generally effective at removing all sorts of paints and markers from clothes, it even removes "permenant" sharpie from stuff.

How do you store your gear for transporting?

I purchased a damp rid closet type hanging moisture absorber that I now keep in the trunk(trunk has a passthrough to the rest of the car if you don't have one i'd probably get 2). They are like $3 and last about 1-2 months. Great investment, prevents mold and gets rid of that day after the...

Who is the Apple of the scuba world?

Hmm.. I can't think of anything. But what really comes to mind is that apple really isn't about innovation at all, or creating unique products. They are the type of company that takes someone elses idea, modifies it a little bit to make it more attractive or easier to use and markets the hell...

    parasailing after diving

Even if you did, I think this has already been addressed, but unless you literally walk out of the ocean with your dive gear on and step onto the elevator or strap on the parasailing harness (fins and all) you're going to have enough time out of the water to have offgassed enough to be safe at...

Do dive computers require annual inspections?

I don't know about anyone else but I don't exactly consider sport chalet to be an LDS. To me, they are a sporting goods store that happens to carry a somewhat limited selection of dive gear.

SCUBA diving: a cure for eczema.

Of course now that I am thinking about it, the use of hyperbaric chambers in traditional medicine (beyond treating DCS) is becoming more common. Scientists have found that it to be atleast somewhat effective at treating things, so it most likely has something to do with the combination of the...

SCUBA diving: a cure for eczema.

I have heard that some dermatologists recommend swimming in the ocean to help with eczema, but have absolutely no clue why it helps and in fact you would think it would make it worse since as a person without eczema my skin always feels pretty dry after being in the ocean. As far as scuba...

    parasailing after diving

Pretty sure it doesn't work that way. And why would you want to push those limits? Even if mathematically it worked out so you managed 5 extra minutes of bottom time those equations and tables are really best guesses or averages and do not apply precisely to everyone in every situation. If...

    Can't "giant stride"

Exposure therapy to get over a fear is a great technique. However, I really wouldn't recommend it unless under the care and direction of a licensed psychologist. Especially something like this, you are already over encumbered with all of the dive gear the last thing you need to do is possibly...

Diver dies after getting caught in rocks.

What a difference from the site I found. Seems innocent enough based on those pages, but still on such a small beach a slight navigation error and you end up in a potentially deadly area seems a little unsafe. Plus it seems there have been a number of accidents (dive & non-dive) related to...

Diver dies after getting caught in rocks.

Seems like a rather dangerous dive site to me. :( A description of the site I found: Divers Cove Beach Laguna Beach Beaches . Based on this info and the history I think I will be avoiding this site in my dive ventures, a little too high risk for me. Heck, seems like a risky site for...

    Need help choosing a reg.

This! I have the MR22 Abyss as well and absolutely love it. I spent a lot of time deciding and almost didn't buy it in favor of a scubapro adjustable that was actually a little cheaper. After really thinking about it a while, I had never dove with an adjustable and never felt I needed to...

    Do you dive without......

I learned buddy breathe and sharing air in my PADI class 9 years or so ago, I don't know if they have stopped teaching it since I was certified or if my teacher taught it simply because he was about a hundred years old and probably has always taught the class with that component?
