Dive Rite TransPac and TransPlate question

For now, I'm just using the cam straps from my Ranger. I want to replace them with some stainless steel ones, but haven't gotten around to it, yet. I decided against the deluxe harness because I want the shoulder straps from the TransPlate and TransPac.

Dive Rite TransPac and TransPlate question

I'd say it's not a clone, but they sure look alike in the pix I've seen. My wing is 19 1/2" long and 15 3/4" wide at the bottom. Bottom circumference is 14 1/4" and top is 10" to 11". These are just approx, of course, but done with a measuring tape. I was surprised to find the Dive Rite...

Dive Rite TransPac and TransPlate question

Nah, I got the Travel wing for $180 at Leisure Pro. Still wish the Jet Harness wing had been available when I was buying.

Dive Rite TransPac and TransPlate question

Thanks for the responses. I was afraid I was asking a stupid question, but the shoulder straps did look identical. I like the sharp stick suggestion. Where can I buy one of those. ;) mattboy - I ordered the Travel wing in mid-March, when Jet Harness's owner was still on sabbatical. I'm...

Dive Rite TransPac and TransPlate question

Does anybody have experience with both of these? If I wanted a TransPac for some dives and a backplate with the TransPlate for others, can I just disassemble the TransPac and use its components instead of having both? (Does that make sense?) It looks to me like the shoulder straps and waist...

Does anyone know if the compass display can be turned off to provide other dive data?

BP question, and O-Pac follow up

This is probably a stupid question, but how does a wing mount to a backplate, if no STA is being used? Bolts? And on the O-Pac, which looks flat in the pictures I've seen, wouldn't the bolts dig into your spine? Assuming you dove without the padding. Or is it just the tank straps that hold...

Anyone Know The Water Temps In Coz Now ?

Was there a month ago. My buddy's Suunto read 81F every dive, while my DMPP said 79F every time. 80F?

Looking for a good operator in Grand Cayman and Aruba

Loved Ocean Frontiers for diving the east side. Treasure Island divers and Bob Soto were good on the west, and Soto's offers nitrox.

The all-inclusive tipping note -- Boats, DMs & Instructors

Actually, I believe it originally stood for "To Insure Preference". Which is grammatically incorrect. It should be "Ensure", but who wants to leave a Tep?

    Spring straps revisited

I have the 3/4" 10-32 screws, but now that I've squeezed the shackles tighter, the screws won't thread. (You should be figuring out by now that I'm not the most mechanically-inclined person in the world) I think I'm going to run some stainless steel wire through the screw holes in the...

The all-inclusive tipping note -- Boats, DMs & Instructors

I figure on $20 for a two tank boat dive. If I ever get sub-standard service, that would be reduced, but so far, (knock on wood) I've had great service. kwesler and Mo2vation make good points. I deal cards, so I work for tips myself, and I'll add that a $100 a day charter with the minimum...

    Spring straps revisited

How do you guys get your shackles so tight? Mine are as tight as they'll go without stripping the screws, and I'm pretty sure I could still pop them off the plastic posts of my Quattros. Speaking of which, do all Quattros have a plastic tab or protrusion on the posts, between the fins...

    Spring straps revisited

Ok, so I got my springs, shackles, screws, and tubing from McMaster-Carr today. Now, I'm waiting on my braided nylon line from Reef Scuba. But, I've got a couple questions. What do I tie the line to? The screws? And how much slack should there be? I know its purpose is to prevent the...

    Are backplates stackable?

What I was thinking was getting a 6# plate for travel and for some doubles, and then later adding another plate for single tank diving in cold water. The second plate would either be another 6, or maybe a 9#. Bolted together, I wouldn't need to carry as much lead, and used individually, I'd...

    Backplates

I'm curious why not? I've read in other posts that quite a few divers prefer a bp in all situations.

    DM protecting weight belts?

So, if a dive op has a policy of not letting their weights be used in a weight-integrated bc because they don't want to lift all that weight out of the water (understandable), are they justified in prohibiting the use of wi bcds altogether, even if you bring your own weights? What about bp...

    DM protecting weight belts?

To me, how I wear my weights is not trivial. If I had wanted to wear them on a belt, I wouldn't have bought a weight integrated BC in the first place. Is the weight belt the personal property of the DM, or does it belong to the dive op? I'd bet the policy was that of one DM and not the owner...
