Almost a thousand dollars for a light?

I agree, light envy is a serious problem. I'll never forget the first time I saw a can light (HID). I made my light look like a candle next to the Sun. At that moment I knew I had to have one of my own. I agree with BabyDuck, "you don't *need* a can light for wrecks, but you'll *want* one."

    What gives with Dive Rite?

hehehe thank goodness you didnt buy a iPhone when it first came out. That $200 price drop a few weeks later would have made you see red....:smilies23

Which piece of gear/equipment do you wish you had bought sooner???

I agree with Colliam7 post, can light, for sure! 1. In the north east the water is a wonderful color of green and pretty dark, without a good light, you will not see anything. 2. When running a wreck reel or searching for lobsters (or other goodies) its nice to have your other had free (I...

    Cold water reg for pony

I have a apex xtx 50 and I use it in Jersey waters without a glitch. Coldest so far has been 38* F with a wet suit, and yes it was cold. Im saving up for that dry suit......

    Ice diving course in NY?

Hoboken Dive Center is doing a Ice Diving class along with a trip the weekend after the class I believe. You can call them to get their schedule as they do not really update their web page that often.

Beware Suunto computers D9 and Vytec.

My buddies and I all have 2006 Vytec's Air-Integrated (non DS version), and not one issue to report. We have over 200+ dives between us on them, and the only issue we ever had was due to user error (using the same transmitter code as someone else in the group). We occasionally spot check each...

Aqua Lung Legend LX ACD or Apeks XTX200?

Thanks for clearing it up. I was looking around on the apeks website and didn't see any reference to AL so I wasn't sure.

    north jersey lake diving

Im going to try to hit up Round Valley Reservoir later on this year. The diving is supposed to be pretty good there and the vis is supposed to be pretty decent there as well. Im trying to get a list of lakes together that I can go diving in NJ, if anyone has some more info, please PM me.

    "Proper" use of a reel

This is a common requirement on pretty much all NJ wreck dives. I dont think you need to take a class in it, but it is a good idea to do a dive or two with a person who has some experience laying down a line. Navigating on a scattered wreck is almost impossible unless you are VERY familiar...

Aqua Lung Legend LX ACD or Apeks XTX200?

I thought AL doesnt own Apeks, just the rights to sell them in the US. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

Does Leisure Pro ever sell fake stuff?

They are a brick and mortar store, just like scubatoys.com. I've been there many times, I assure you it does exist. They just happen to have a HUGE online presence and great prices on quality items. Heck, if they were able to ship filled tanks w/ shipping, then Id almost never go to a LDS...

PADI Patches - Where do you get them and how do you wear them?

One of my friends puts his patches in a large picture frame that he has on his wall. I thought it was a neat idea. I agree with the other posters here, wear what you like and dont pay attention to the peanut gallery. Ohh and if you put your patch on your dive gear, you are going to die...

Does Leisure Pro ever sell fake stuff?

I pretty much buy everything from LP. I have never had a problem with their service or their products. One of my friends has been using them for a few years to get his regs serviced, and also has had no problems. One of the tech's at my LDS has a few times outside the shop told me to buy...

    Pony Bottle

Dunno but in Jersey pretty much everyone dives a pony or doubles. You either sling it or mount it on your back. Dunno about people saying that if you have a pony you are going to die, but Im sure those are the same people who say that if you dont dive a 7ft hose your going to die. The only...

Looking for opinions on the Seaquest Balance

I have a Balance and I really like it. I dive it with a Steel 120 and dont have any issues with it. I made some DIY mods to make the BCD more practical for the type of diving that I do (added some extra d-rings, a lift bag holder, etc). Also this is a good BCD to get the feel for how a BP...

    cannister light question

I have a DiveRite 10W HID, and it comes with both an elastic/Goodman handle, and a storm case. I agree definitely get the most wattage that you can afford. Since these things are already so expensive you might as well get one that you are going to like. Also it depends on the type of diving...

    Shipping a VIP'd tank?

Thats what I thought, so I let the guy VIP it for a cool $20 + $10 for a fill. In the end it's worth the piece of mind. It just would have been nice to know about this before I decided to purchase my tank. Thanks everyone.

    Shipping a VIP'd tank?

So it seems then the LDS was correct. You should not ship a tank with a VIP sticker since the valve is not attached to the tank.... I still dont see how a VIP would prevent the tank from exploding? I could have a tank rolling around in the back of my truck as I go off roading, and then get a...

    Shipping a VIP'd tank?

The other day I ran into a little bit of a quandary at my local LDS. I recently bought a 30 cu ft tank from Scuba Toys. It came with the valve off, and a VIP sticker. I took the tank to my workshop, and tightened the valve on the tank to the manufactures specifications (40~50lbs of torque)...
