Ive recently returned from my first trip to Hawaii (all in Maui) where I had a fantastic time. It wasnt a dive trip per se, but we did have a day for diving. Since my partner is not yet certified and we were looking for checkout dives, we opted to dive nearby in West Maui instead of getting...
Another lurked here. After the incident in the Maldives a few years ago, I bought one of these on Don's recommendation:
I'm in coz now, but didn't bring it as I didn't check it early enough and it looks like the batteries are dead or something. If newer, better portable co detectors are...
I'm sitting in the Blue Angel lounge typing this with sadness - my dive tomorrow with the bull sharks was cancelled as the op on the mainland i was going to use believes the sharks were wiped out by fisherman. None showed up for the last few dives. Jorge said he thinks it is just early in the...
I was there last year in November and everything was great except the water was very rough. After a few boat dives getting seasick we went to the Dive Bus next to the resort for shore diving around the island and they were fantastic. The resort is fine; we had a great time.
Booked my first trip to Coz this morning! I'll be there solo November 10th to 17th!
I'll be staying at the Blue Angel; 2-tank dives every morning and unlimited shore diving, here I come!
:D
For anyone researching: Toronto direct to Cozumel was under $500 including taxes.
Congrats to the US - looking at the team rosters at the beginning of the Olympics I thought (and I think most fans thought) this would be yet another Canada-Russia battle.
Taking the gold medal game to OT when most people thought they'd be battling the Swedes for bronze is incredible...
I just got back from Curacao and was not able to dive the Producer as there was a ship in port every day of the week except one, and on that day the currents were too strong to dive it. I've also heard the line is gone.
The diving in Curacao is fantastic - enjoy yourself.
I haven't done any ice diving, but in 40F water at 130ft in Toby diving the Forest City my Mares Abyss Mk22 was a pleasure - no freeflows and it breathes like a charm.
I stayed at Henry Morgan last December - not a dive resort, but a great beach and a good dive op. It was a good combo for divers and our non-diving friends.
4C is about 39F, I think. After doing some springtime dives where it was 41F (5C) below the thermocline I've thought about going dry as well. If I were going into 33F I would be going dry for sure - that sounds brutal!
I'm not as experienced as others on the board, but in my limited experience Dominion Republic was terrible (at least in Punta Cana), and Roatan was amazing.
I have never used Oxycheq, but I love my DSS LCD 30 for diving up here in 7mm and look forward to using it down south with a 3mm. I recommend getting the weights for the backplate to take weight off your waist.
Happy diving,
WG

I'm not sure why manfacturers don't provide this. When I was researching which wing to get I called my wetsuit manufacturer and they didn't know the boyancy! I ended up tieing a weightbelt to it and throwing it in a pool.
We were there last December and a couple women were eaten alive. We're used to large annoying mosquitos up here that you can see, hear, and feel.
Down there they are unseen and unheard. One morning some of the women woke up covered in nasty red bites that were there for days. I spent most...
