    Prescription Masks

Another vote for Prescription Dive Mask. Great people, fast, quality service. I sent them a Cressi-sub Matrix mask.. The best mask is one that fits.

    Seaquest Pro Unlimited BCD

Yup.. Have used a Seaquest pro for a few years.. It is 100% reliable.. comfortable, very sturdy and has never given a day of trouble for hundreds of dives in all kinds of conditions. On the down side.. it is bulky, heavy, and the integrated weights sometimes make the BC unwieldy.. Moving to...

    Diving and Cosmetics article

Lipstick.. blush.. mascara.. eyeshadow.. On the boat? You've got to be joking.. I always use conditioner and a hood.. even when doing pool work or diving the tropics.. A Henderson ,fleece lined, "skin" thickness hood. Mostly to keep my long dark very curly hair out of the way.. also to...

Divemasters/Resorts making you flood and clear?

A checkout before your first dive protects everyone.. against those unable to perform the most basic, essential, skills. Weeding out the inept.. hopefully to a refresher in the pool.. reduces emergencys & rescues on the open water.. better for the operator.. better for the dive masters.. and...

Does gearing up really tire you out?

several thoughts.. 1) Giving enough time so you don't feel rushed.. 2) Use a cart to haul gear.. tks especially... from the car to the boat.. 3) Diving Nitrox took away a lot of fatigue 4) weight training 2x week 5) Staying fully hydrated.. even though this means hitting the head both before...

Is certification necessary for a first time dive?

As others have said.. Discover SCUBA gives you a taste of diving without certification.. If you get hooked.. you can always do your classroom & pool sessions at home.. and do your checkout dives & more in Cozumel.

Need advice for a BC with good lumbar support

I had back surgery several years ago.. After trying several BC's in the pool.. the Seaquest pro felt most comfortable with the scar tissue. I don't think the BC itself provides a great deal of support.. It's important the BC is properly fit.. and to use care from the time you get geared...

How would you prepare a new OW diver for 80' and drift dives?

Lots of good advice so far in this thread.. I too advocate experience over numerous certifications.. but check with your dive operator, some may require AOL for deeper dives. The good news is you're diving is in May... and you're diving weekly locally.. so you MAY be ready.. If not, the 80'...

Best place to purchase women's swim suits for diving

I wear cheap one piece suits in the pool.. Either Costco or end of year sale.. The chlorine ruins the suit no matter what.. I like full coverage tankinis for open water, where I usually dive dry.. I like both LL Bean and Lands end.

Dump valve on the forearm... Why?

Depends on dives you're planning on. Notice you're from Brooklyn. If you're planning on lobstering, hunting, or digging off the wrecks, the shoulder valve is out of the way, although you need to use a little care getting into your rig..

What Gear should every solo diver have?

It's great you want to buddy with your blind friend.. I suggest increasing your own dive experience. Not only with classes.. but increasing your dives. If it were me.. I would research into diving with disabiliites and take training with my friend so you had experience together in a...

Regs to AVOID? (focus on more basic models)

Avoid Dacor & Mares.. parts are a nightmare... ScubaPro MK25/G250HP is a workhorse.. not their newest model.. works well in colder water.. Choose a brand where you have access to a local rep for service & repairs..
